Welcome to the Festive Decor Website
Festive Decor (Patron - Sir Fabian Malbon) is the Guernsey registered charity responsible for the ownership and annual erection of the Guernsey Christmas lights in St. Peter Port. The Christmas lights are 100% funded by charitable donations and have been since the first string of lights was put up in 1964.
The
erection of the Christmas lights is co-ordinated by Festive Decor and
man power is provided by volunteers from the Young Buisness Group
("YBG") who also co-ordinate Switch On Day.
In
2000, following a huge public fundraising campaign, we raised over
£100,000 and were able to buy the impressive modern lights you see in
Smith Street, the Pollet, Church Square and the Boardage. In 2007 we
raised a further £60,000 which will enable us to illuminate the Market,
Mill Street and Fountain Street in 2008.
But
it cannot stop there. Testing, maintaining and putting up/taking down Christmas
lights is an expensive business and we estimate (due to the inclusion of the new displays) that we will now need to raise over £30,000
every year to just do just this. Festive Decor does not receive any States
funding, contrary to popular belief, so responsibility for the lights
falls to the charity and the Guernsey community.
We are therefore asking you to help by becoming a Friend of the Lights. Businesses and individuals can join the “Friends” – click on the button below to find out more. Alternatively if you would like to make a one off donation to the lights campaign then please click on the “donate” button below.
Thank you.
