A little update from Martine
Hi everyone,
Switch On Day
I cannot believe how quickly this time of year comes round ... the BIG 'Switch On' takes place on Saturday 29th November 2008, 6pm in Church Square. As you know, this years Switch On will be extra special because we have lovely new lights in Town. The parade will start from outside the Old Brewery Building at Les Echelons (by Credit Suisse) where there will be a large area cordoned off for people to wait for the arrival of Father Christmas at meet some of his helpers. Father Christmas will arrive at 4.55pm by Fire Engine and will walk along the South Esplanade towards the Town Church where the lights will be switched on at 6pm. Please ensure your children remember to bring their letters with them to give to Father Christmas, and ensure that they include a response address.
Entertainment in Church Square kicks off at 4pmhosted by Island FM and will feature performances from Church on the Rock, Guernsey Youth Theatre and Lee Rosete. There will also be a very special appearance by Oscar Puffin.
So just to sum up the timetable for next Saturday:
4pm Entertainment in Church Square starts
4.55pm Father Christmas arrives at Les Echelons (Old Brewery) and makes his way to Church Square
6pm The BIG Switch on!
Fundraising
Our fundraising total stands at £20,745.00 (which includes the whopping £10,000 donation from Generali). We are hoping to increase this considerably as the next round of letters to the (non-contributing) town traders is going out any day and we feel that once they see the effort involved in putting up the new lights, they will realise that they should contribute. Fingers crossed!
Putting up the Lights
Well it has been challenging and we will be working like the clappers this Sunday to finish off... but we are almost there.
A phenomenal amount of work has been put into erecting this years display, much of which is voluntary ... there are SO many names to mention and I really don't want to forget anyone but I will mention a few... specifically the Young Business Group, a number of States employees from various departments, the Guernsey Probation Service, Event Services, OCS, Guernsey Electricity, Hazel from Traffic and the team from MK Illuminations.... and many, many more.
That is all from me, I hope to send you a final fundraising update before the big Switch On. As always, thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind regards,
Martine Ellis
